History of Romo Durable Graphics #1
2023 marks 70 years since Romo Durable Graphics inception. Ownership, technology, and product changes have propelled this company from a small local printer to a worldwide provider of livery for durable products.
Our Founders
Back in 1953, Les Rose and Bill Motre combined their talents and names to pursue the American dream. Creating eye-catching logos, decals, and advertisements for local Green Bay car dealerships and retail stores. In the days before computer-aided design, everything was created freehand – each color one layer at a time. Once they finished this time-consuming process, a large camera was used to blow up the art to the proper size. When a job called for multiple parts on a single sheet, each photo of the artwork was hand cut, stepped and repeated on a grid. Getting the proper registration and perfectly cut lines required meticulous attention to detail. The process took a long time, often several weeks from start to finish.
Today’s technology streamlines the process to days instead of weeks. The art process, however, remains. Attention to detail, utilization of unique inks and materials, innovation and timeless values mean as much to Romo today as they did in 1953.
Les and Bill were true artists of their time. They directed their art toward product decoration. While art critics may not recognize it as world famous art, Romo’s graphics receive tens of millions of “views” each year. Without their expertise and attention to detail, the commercial-printing business wouldn’t be as vibrant and eye catching as it is today.
Hail to the founding fathers of Romo who blazed a trail for our existence today – Les Rose and Bill Motre.
